The Lagos state police command says it has foiled the attempted murder of some women, who were drugged and defiled in hotels, Wellwood and De-Didos hotels in Ajangbadi, recently.
The state commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, at a press conference, said on May 24, a 26-year-old man identified as Chibuzor Ayogu, who resides at 7, Abdullahi Street, Kirikiri, Apapa, was apprehended by workers at Wellwood Hotels after he tried to strangle an 18-year-old girl named Faith whom he had brought to the hotel to have sex with.

The workers in the hotel responded when they heard the young lady calling for help at about 12.35 am. The police was invited and the suspect was arrested after he had tried to use a rope to strangle his victim.

“The victim narrated that, about 12:15 am, Ayogu came to her room. After sleeping with her, he brought out a rope, tied it round her neck and pulled her down. She said he tried to suffocate her by blocking her mouth and nostrils with a pillow. She said she was rescued by a worker of the hotel, who heard noise in her room. The suspect was arrested, and the rope with which he nearly killed the girl was recovered from him. He is yet to tell the police his motive for attempting to kill the victim.” CP Edgal said
Faith, a petty trader, said the suspect mistook her for a commercial sex worker, and gave her N1,000 after they had sex.
“I buy fairly-used clothes in Cotonou and sell them in Enugu. I live in Enugu. I met the young man on Wednesday night. I sat at the lobby of the hotel, drinking a beverage. He mistook me for a commercial sex worker. I told him I was not a sex worker, but a lodger. He said he liked me and wanted to have sex with me and I agreed. So, I took him to my room. After everything, he paid me N1,000. As I was about dropping the money for him, he used a rope to tie my neck. I started shouting and people rescued me.”
In a related development, a 25 year old man identified as Ekene Onyetube, was arrested for drugging and defiling a 28-year-old lady, Precious, whom he met on social media and invited from Enugu to Lagos on May 3rd. He took her to a hotel in Ajangbadi, drugged her, defiled her and attempted to steal from her as well.
“The victim narrated that he took her to De-Didos Hotel in Shibiri, Ajangbadi, where he allegedly drugged, defiled and stole her phones and voter’s card. The suspect was arrested on May 25 through community partnership. His details were circulated to all hotels in the area and when he went to lodge in another hotel, he was arrested. During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he hooked up the victim on HITWE (a social media platform). At the conclusion of investigation, the suspect will be arraigned. Youths should be mindful of who they interact with on the social media. They should be wary of those luring them with promises of gift, better life and must always seek the advice of their parents at all times about people making promises to them. The victim, who said she just finished the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), added that she believed the suspect must have drugged her after she left her drink to use the rest room.”CP Edgal Imohimi said
