Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, says President Buhari has the right to keep his ailment private. President Buhari has since assuming office, made quite a number of trips to the UK to see his medical doctor. He has kept details of the ailment to himself, a stand many Nigerians have found very offensive since he is a sitting president.
In a chat with Thisday, the Health Minister explained that the kind of ailment affecting President Buhari has been kept private because over the years, Nigerians have failed to manage information very well. He said when President Buhari's son, Yusuf, was operated on, some Nigerians went out to spread false news that Yusuf had died.
“You have forgotten that as our president, he is also an individual. Unfortunately, we still, as a country, we cannot handle information. The president’s son was operated; they said he was dead. You see, it is a strange country and so we do not respect people’s right to privacy and confidentiality. We also have no respect for doctor-patient relationship,” the minister said.
