Sex-for-mark scandal: Victim says OAU professor was her mentor

Monica Osagie, the victim of the sex-for-mark scandal rocking the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, says the accused lecturer, Professor Richard Akindele, was her mentor.

In a recent interview with CNN, Monica said she and the accused lecturer started a good student-lecturer relationship when she helped him edit his book but later started to ask her out. She, however, said their relationship went sour after he made sexual advances towards her.

“We actually edited the book together. Then, the next thing he told me was, ‘Can you date me?’ I was like, ‘No.’ He was like, ‘Why?’ I said, ‘One, I don’t date lecturers, and secondly, you are more matured than I am. He kept calling me to ask if I was ready to accept his proposal. So, I decided to record our next conversation.”she said

Money laundering: Edo PDP governorship candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, remanded in prison custody

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC yesterday arraigned Pastor Osagie Ize -Iyamu, PDP governorship candidate in Edo State; Lucky Imasuen, former deputy governor of Edo State, Chief Dan Orbih, PDP Chairman in Edo State; Tony Aziegbemi and Efe Erimuoghae before Justice P.I.Ajoku of the Federal High Court, Benin City, Edo State on an eight count chargebordering on money laundering.

The defendants were alleged to have sometime in March 2015 in Benin City, directly taken possession of the sum of seven hundred million ( N700,000,000) without any contract award which sum was allegedly part of proceeds of an unlawful act, to wit: fraud and corruption.

The five defendants pleaded not guilty to all the counts when they were read to them.

Court nullifies lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin’s suspension, orders payment of his allowances

A federal high court in Abuja has declared the suspension of Abdulmumin Jibrin, lawmaker representing Bebeji/Kiru constituency in Kano state, by the house of representatives, as illegal and has asked that the house pay him all his allowances during his suspension.

In 2017, the house suspended Jibrin for 180 legislative days after he accused the leadership of the house of padding the 2016 budget. Jibrin, who has since resumed his legislative duties, had taken the house to court over his suspension.

'The Federal Government is irresponsible' – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has condemned the Federal Government over its incapability to arrest the spate of killing in the country, saying that the govt has demonstrated an act of irresponsibility towards its constitutional responsibility.  

The union maintained that a government that allowed her people to be murdered daily wwas totally irresponsible and has failed to fulfill the social contract of protecting lives and properties. Conveying this position to the public, the ASUU Chairman of the University of Ibadan, UI, Dr Deji Omole, in an interview with newsmen shortly after the congress of the union in Ibadan demanded adequate security of lives and properties of Nigerians from the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.  

The Union also called for the de-politicization of security by heads of security agencies, saying loyalty must be to Nigeria and not to Aso Rock residents.  Omole, who noted that Nigerians who were already battling with poor economic conditions were now afraid that their lives could be terminated anyhow, pointing out that the Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government had been issuing ineffective condemnation speeches.  

According to Omole, it was a sign of irresponsibility for the government to fold its arms while people were being killed only to approve N10 billion for rebuilding affected communities, saying “a serious government would have prevented destruction from happening but the government allowed the carnage to happen.”

Barcelona and Spain legend, Andres Iniesta, has signed for Japanese club Vissel Kobe. 

The 33-year-old midfielder was unveiled at a press conference in Tokyo on Thursday along with Kobe's billionaire owner Hiroshi Mikitani.

'I'm pleased to announce that Andres Iniesta will be signing up to play with Vissel Kobe after his historic career at Barcelona,' Mikitani said.

Mikitani who's also the CEO of Barcelona's main sponsor Rakuten, a Japanese online retailer added: 'Iniesta is a top global player. Many of us will recall Iniesta's astounding goal in the final of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa that brought Spain its first title in the tournament.

FG reacts to Amnesty International's report on soldiers raping IDP women and girls

Earlier today, Amnesty International released a report in which soldiers were accused of raping and demanding sex from IDP women and girls in exchange for food.

The presidency has now reacted to the allegation. In a statement signed by the senior special assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity Garba Shehu, the Federal Government said the report released by AI lacked evidence. Read the statement below

The recent report released by the Amnesty International alleging human rights violation by Nigerian security agencies is inherently battling with credibility, falling vehemently short of evidential narration.

It is short on credibility because it does not contain factual leads that could have laid the foundation for investigative actions.

Findings are attributed to people but proper description of such people constituting the source of information is not provided.

Anti- Corruption War: 'We Stand By Nigeria' - ‎Transparency International

Delia Ferreira Rubio, Chair of Transparency International, TI, has said that the anti-corruption body will stand by Nigeria to get rid of the menace called corruption in order to improve the lives of people.

Rubio made the assertion during a courtesy visit to the EFCC Headquarters, Abuja on May 23, 2018. The visit comes a few days after Ibrahim Magu, the acting EFCC Chairman emerged the new Chair of the Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Commonwealth Africa.

While offering her support to the EFCC, Rubio, who is visiting Africa for the first time, noted that her choice of Nigeria as first stop was recognition of the the country's efforts in fighting corruption.

"I am familiar with the problem and I am familiar with EFCC's fight against corruption in Nigeria as you are working in a difficult context," Rubio said.

On his part, Auwal Rafsanjani, Head, Transparency International Nigeria/Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, CISLAC, offered the support of TI to help Nigeria in curbing corruption, and commended the EFCC's exploits in the area of assets recovery.

30-year-old finally gets a job offer after he was taken to court by his parents because he wouldn't move away from home

30-year-old Michael Rotondo made the news after his New York parents took him to court because he refused to leave home even after they gave him 5 eviction notices (read here).

Michael lost the eviction case but has gotten a job out of the publicity his story generated. The day after his family court battle made headlines, Michael was offered a job by online cam site, CamSoda. CamSoda sent him a letter of employment which TMZ has obtained.

In the letter, the company first offered Michael condolences on losing the eviction case then offered him a paying gig in its "LifeStream" program. CamSoda made its name as the site where porn stars do online camming but Michael will not be expected to be involved in porn. According to the letter, the program "allows people to livestream their candid lives 24/7" and that's what they are offering Michael.

Man hits young lady with hammer on her head during fight

A fight between a man and young lady turned deadly as the man hit the lady with a hammer sending her crashing to the floor.

The incident reportedly happened in one of the hoods in Southeast Atlanta. In the shocking video, the man is seen arguing with the lady, who reports say is a teenager. The argument became really heated and the man raised a hammer and hit her on her head with it.

The impact threw the lady to the ground and, at this point, neighbors who were watching but didn't interfere now made a move to restrain the man. One female in the group raised a chair and went after the man, saying, "I'm going to kill you."

Kevin Federline takes Britney spears to court to demand for "at least 3 times" more in child support

Kevin Federline, who receives $20,000 monthly from ex-wife Britney Spears in child support, is taking her to court in a quest for more child support.

The DJ, who was married to the pop star for two years, has filed legal documents requesting a change in their child support agreement and for Spears to cover his attorney's fees associated with the case.

Spears has been paying the former backup dancer $20,000 in child support since 2008 for their two sons, Sean, 12, and Jayden, 11. Initially, reports emerged in March that the two were in private negotiations after Federline sought to revisit their existing agreement, but now, he is seeking the formal input of the court to increase the amount.

E! Online reports that in court documents filed on May 22, Federline argues that his income has decreased significantly since the last time their agreement was modified while he believes Spears' annual income is around $34 million according to news reports. Currently, he estimates his income at $3,000 a month, "less than 1 percent" of Spears' estimated income.

A government worker claims she was tied to her office chair and gagged by colleagues as revenge after she reported an alleged culture of bullying in her workplace.

In a shocking image allegedly taken by one of the abusers, DeeAnn Fitzpatrick is seen taped to a chair with her arms pinned by her sides. The photo of her being taped up was obtained by the BBC.  Ms Fitzpatrick claims she was the victim of racist and misogynist bullying while working at a government agency for fisheries in Scotland. 

In evidence to a tribunal, Canadian national Ms Fitzpatrick, 49, claims she was told: "This is what you get when you speak out against the boys."

Actor Charles Billion Pius and his American wife, Mimi Rashaad, have parted ways.

Billion got married and impregnated Rashaad while he was still married to actress Mimi Orjiekwe. 

Sources close to the actor have informed LIB that the union between the actor and his American woman have parked up. Mimi Rashaad welcomed their son, Ahmaad, few months ago and afterwards called off their union. She claimed she was not aware that Charles was at the time married to Orjiekwe when she got married to him.
