Ebonyi state governor pledges to sign first death warrant in case of kidnappers who abducted and shot businessman

In a bid to stem the rising tide of violence in Ebonyi state, the governor, David Umahi has vowed to sign his ‘first death warrant’ once the kidnappers of a recently abducted but freed victim were convicted. Mr Monday Okeh, a businessman and proprietor of Monablis hotel was kidnapped in front of his establishment two weeks ago in the state capital, Abakaliki. He was taken to a river where he was reportedly shot and thrown into the river. He, however, survived the incident.

According to Premium Times, a family source said the assailants used a black Highlander Jeep with no bumper in the front. The source said:

Reverend Father Emmanuel Atsue, the Rector at the Sacred Heart Minor Seminary in Jalingo Taraba State, has shared details of Fulani herdsmen attack on the school.

The herdsmen had stormed the seminary at about 12:30 a.m, on Sunday, in search of Revered Father Cornelius Koba, who they claimed had been preventing them from grazing their cattle around the school's premise. They shot sporadically at the Rector's residence, broke window glasses and windscreen of one of the vehicles and shot and injured Father Koba.

Father Atsue, who spoke on behalf of the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese, Jalingo, also disclosed that the school has been shut down for one week to enable the students go home to their families and recover from the trauma. His post below:

Lagos police arrest man rushing home to see his dying dad because he had four phones with him

A young man travelling to the eastern part of Nigeria was prevented from continuing on his journey by Lagos state police because he had four phones with him.

The bus conveying the young man and other travellers was reportedly stopped on Ikorodu Sagamu expressway and the young man was detained because he had multiple phones.

According to the Twitter user who shared the story, the young man explained that he was travelling home to see his dying dad and people gave him phones to deliver to people in his home town. However, the police officer still refused to let him continue on his journey.

Ex-PDP National publicity secretary, Dayo Adeyeye, defects to APC

Former National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dayo Adeyeye, has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). The former Minister of State for Works made it known at a press conference held at his private residence in Ado-Ekiti today May 29th.

Adeyeye left the PDP early this month after losing the PDP governorship ticket in Ekiti.

According to the president,

Popular Ebonyi hotelier survives after being kidnapped, shot and dumped inside river by suspected assassins

A popular businessman in Ebonyi State, Chief Monday Okeh narrowly escaped assassination on his way to a meeting in Abakaliki.

It was gathered that Chief Okeh, a.k.a Emebeifego, who owns a popular hotel 'Monablis' located in the state capital was abducted by four men last Friday night.

The  suspects picked the victim few miles away from his hotel and took him to a river where they shot him and dropped him inside the river.

Offa bank robberies: Dismissed police officer admits to killing over 20 persons, gives reason why he ensured he killed policemen

The dismissed Corporal turned leader of the armed robbery gang that attacked commercial banks in Offa, Kwara State on April 5th, Michael Adiku has given reasons why he killed over 20 persons including police officers during the robbery incident.

Speaking with detectives after his arrest, Adikwu said he deliberately killed the policemen that day because he has scores to settle with the system that dismmissed him from service.

The Nation reports that Adikwu, a Corporal attached to the Kwara State unit of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), was dismissed after he was accused of freeing suspected armed robbers. He was later charged to court and sent to prison, where he spent three years. Upon his release, he formed the robbery gang that attacked the banks.

The Lagos state police command has arrested the financier of Magico Football Academy Agege, Victor Achidume, 43, for allegedly shaving the pubic hair of five teenage boys.

Achideume was arrested after one of the students fell ill and informed his parents that their financier had shaved his armpit and private part on May 9th after warning him and others not to tell anyone.

“We do not belong to his team. We met him during a football match and he invited us to his house. He used to talk about football to us and he used to dash us N100 or N200. He told us to be coming to his house every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I went with my friends the first time. He asked me if I had shaved my armpit and private part before and I said no. And then, he shaved it. He was talking about football as he was doing it. Then, he said I should not tell anyone and that I should be coming to his place to collect N100.” Oluwaseun said

Tamaryn beat 11 other dazzling young women from across South Africa to scoop the prestigious crown. She will also represent the country on a global stage at Miss Universe SA.  

Pretty Tamaryn made it to the top two and beat 26-year-old‚ University of Cape Town graduate Thulisa Keyi who walked away with the Miss World SA title.  Tamaryn is a medical student from the Western Cape. She won the judges over when she told them that she would use her medical knowledge to heal people.

The Lagos state police command says it has foiled the attempted murder of some women, who were drugged and defiled in hotels, Wellwood and De-Didos hotels in Ajangbadi, recently. 

The state commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, at a press conference, said on May 24, a 26-year-old man identified as Chibuzor Ayogu, who resides at 7, Abdullahi Street, Kirikiri, Apapa, was apprehended by workers at Wellwood Hotels after he tried to strangle an 18-year-old girl named Faith whom he had brought to the hotel to have sex with.

The workers in the hotel responded when they heard the young lady calling for help at about 12.35 am. The police was invited and the suspect was arrested after he had tried to use a rope to strangle his victim.

Former Vice President and presidential hopeful of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has appointed the former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel as the Director General of his 2019 presidential campaign. The unveiling of Gbenga Daniel as DG is contained in a press release by the media office of the former Vice President on Monday.

Dino Melaye made the fresh allegation on his IG page after he shared a photo of a document from the police when his house was last searched. Dino wrote

'' Now there is a plan to plant arms In my village house and constituency office in Kabba and incriminate me. We are watchful and waiting''

Dino has been accused by the police of running a criminal gang. He was arraigned in a Magistrate court in Kogi state on May 3rd.

'National assembly members are notorious for demanding bribes with impunity' - Former INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega

The former chairman of INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega has said members of the national assembly are notorious for demanding bribes.

Jega spoke on Monday in Abuja while delivering a lecture titled, ‘Peace building and good governance for sustainable development in Nigeria’ as part of activities organised to mark the 2018 Democracy Day.  

He said lawmakers often take bribes under the pretext of committee work and oversight functions and he suugested that the scope of the anti-corruption fight should be extended to cover bribe-taking and giving especially in government agencies.

YouTube deletes half of 'violent' music videos in UK

YouTube says it has deleted more than half of the "violent" music videos that the country's most senior police officer asked it to take down. More than 30 clips have been removed so far. 

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick has blamed some videos for fuelling a surge in murders and violent crime in London and singled out drill music. She asked YouTube to delete content which glamorises violence.
