The South-East Governors’ Forum (SEGF)  have rejected the proposal by the Federal Government to establish cattle ranches in some states to solve the frequent clashes between herdsmen and farmers. 

The governors at a meeting in Enugu state yesterday July 8th, said they would not be donating any of their land to the Federal government for the purpose of building ranches for herdsmen.

Gunmen kidnap two Imo-based entertainers

Two popular entertainers in Imo state, Ugo Stevenson and Izunna Obiakor, have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Owerri, the state capital.

According to reports, Stevenson, a 2008 winner of Nigeria Music Awards, was kidnapped while on his way home. His abductors have contacted his wife and are demanding a N5 million ransom for his release. 

Obiakor on the other hand was ambushed and kidnapped while driving in his SUV in Owerri, the state capital. Both incidents happened last week. 

BBC Wold Cup reporter drugged and robbed In Russia

A British reporter for the BBC was drugged and robbed while working at the World Cup in Russia, and two men have been detained in connection with the alleged crime.

Irina Volk, a spokesperson for the Russian Interior Ministry, said:  "as a result of the search operation, a suspect in the robbery of a British national has been detained. Yesterday, the British national reported to the police that he had been robbed in a taxi. As a result of the search operation, officers of the criminal police found the car which the man had taken and one of the suspects had been detained. He is now being questioned."

The Nigerian Police force ahead of the July 14th guber election in Ekiti State has deployed 30,000 police personnel to the state.

The force in a statement signed by its PRO, Jimoh Moshood says it will deal decisively in accordance with the laws with any individual or groups no matter how highly placed, whose utterances or conduct is contrary to the electoral act or that can incite disturbance of public peace during the election.

The Presidency, Senate and Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun, have kept mute over allegations published by Premium Times on Saturday that she skipped the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and subsequently obtained a forged exemption certificate in 2009.
 

The minister reportedly graduated from the Polytechnic of East London, in the United Kingdom, in 1989, at 22. The scheme is compulsory for all Nigerian graduates, under the age of 30, while those above the age limit are required to obtain an exemption certificate.
 

Several attempts to speak with the minister by journalists have been unsuccessful. Repeated calls and texts to her mobile lines have gone answered.

A fraudster who has been extorting people using a police identity card has been arrested by the police in Sokoto.

Mahmuda Hamza was paraded at the police headquarters in the state on Friday alongside some area boys, and he confessed to extortion using a fake ID card.

Speaking to newsmen, Hamza explained that he took the identity card from a deceased policeman and attached his passport photograph to it.

Punch quotes Hamza as saying: "I am a fraudster and I know I have committed an offence but I am pleading, I will not go into crime again if I am pardoned. I am not an armed robber, but a fraudster. I have two wives and seven children and I feed them all from the money I make through this fraud.

A 94-year-old man from Ossen in Baringo North got baptized with 5000 liters of boiled water in Kenya 

The rare baptism took place at the Ossen AIC church and was presided over by Rev Elijah Katya.

According to the Rev, they were forced to boil the water for baptism due to cold weather and the age of the frail old man. He said it took them two hours to boil the more than 5000 liters of water using firewood and also electric heaters.

Adenike Khadijat Oluboyo, daughter of the immediate past Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Alhaji Lasisi Olugbenga Oluboyo, was found dead at her boyfriend’s house in Akure today July 8th..

Oluboyo, who was a final year student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, was found dead in the house of Adeyemi Alao, popularly known as Q.S.

Femi Joseph, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ondo command told the News Agency of Nigeria that the incident is being investigated.

Six members of the Thai soccer team trapped inside a flooded cave have now been brought out after divers executed a carefully constructed rescue mission.

According to the Thai Public Broadcast Service, the six other players and their coach who are still trapped in the cave will remain underground tonight and be rescued tomorrow.

The starved and exhausted kids are currently being treated at a hospital after they were flown in a military helicopter.

In two months, Twitter suspends over 70 million accounts

Twitter Inc. suspended more than one million accounts in recent months to reduce the flow of misinformation on the platform. Twitter and other social media platforms such as Facebook Inc. have been under scrutiny by United States lawmakers and international regulators for doing too little to prevent the spread of false content.  

The companies have been taking steps such as deleting user accounts, introducing updates and actively monitoring content to help users avoid being victims to fake content. Twitter suspended more than 70 million accounts in May and June, and the pace has continued in July, the media reported on Friday, citing data it obtained.

Kogi PDP rejects Dino Melaye, says he will be a liability not an asset to the party

The Kogi West Elders Forum (KWEF) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  has rejected any attempt to impose Senator Dino Melaye as the sole senatorial candidate on the people of the Kogi West in 2019. The  elders made this known through its chairman, Hon. Shaibu Momoh, at a meeting held in Lokoja, today July 8th. This development comes amidst Dino's planned defection to the party aytime soon. 

Momoh who spoke on behalf of the elders said Dino if allowed to contest in any free and fair election in the state now will be defeated. The elders said they will vehemently reject any attempt to make Dino an automatic senatorial candidiate

Matthew Omokhafe is accused of raping the minor, a primary four pupil who will not be named, in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
