17-year-old Michael Brown from Houston applied to 20 of the best universities in the United States and he was admitted to every single one with a full ride and $260,000 in additional scholarship offers.

"It's something I'm proud of because I see my hard work paying off, determination paying off, sacrifices paying off," he said. Of those 20, he listed his top eight choices as: Harvard, Princeton, Northwestern, Yale, University of Pennsylvania, Stanford, Georgetown and Vanderbilt.

Minister of Solid Minerals and ex-governor, Kayode Fayemi joins Ekiti State guber race

Minister of Solid Minerals, Kayode Fayemi who was defeated in the 2013 governorship election in Ekiti state is set to contest for the position again on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).  

The current Minister of Mines and Steel Development was defeated by incumbent Ayo Fayose of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).  Fayemi said on Sunday that he will contest the July 14 gubernatorial election.  

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the minister made his ambition known at a news conference at his Isan-Ekiti country home in Oye Local Government Area of the state. Fayemi had hosted leaders and scores of members of the party from all the 16 Local Government Areas and the 177 Wards of the state.

Anthony Joshua is $20m richer after defeating Joseph Parker

British-Nigerian heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua is expected to earn between £18million and £20million, after beating New Zealand's Joseph Parker in the unification fight in Cardiff on Saturday night.  

This new paycheck will take Joshua’s gross earnings from three fights to £50 million, according to reports. Joshua will even take home more money if he faces the undefeated WBC heavyweight champion America’s Deontay Wilder, who recently produced a tenth-round stoppage to beat Joe Ortiz.

10 people die following the collapse of a 4-storey hotel building in India

At least 10 people died and two were injured when a four-storey hotel collapsed in a crowded part of the central Indian city of Indore late on Saturday, a local police official said.  

Rescue operations were complete and no other casualties were likely, assistant sub-inspector Ramesh Kirade told Reuters. While the building was old, the reason for its collapse was not immediately known, Kirade said.

Court gives toughest sentence to slave owners in Mauritania

Two slave owners in Mauritania have been jailed in a country where slavery remains widespread but convictions rare. The sentences of 10 and 20 years are said to be the toughest-ever for the crime in the West African country.  

Slavery was outlawed in 1981 but 1% of the population are still living in bondage, human rights groups say. Black people of certain ethnic groups are often enslaved as domestic workers by lighter-skinned Mauritanians. The country has jailed more anti-slavery activists than slave owners, rights groups say.

“I have decided to officially adopt Emir title today because I want to emulate the attitudes of Northern Emirs.

Big Brother brings in new twist to the show as BamBam is evicted on Saturday (Video)

A new twist was introduced into the show as Big Brother Naija housemate, Bam Bam became the latest housemate to be evicted from the 3rd season of the reality show.

Eviction show was supposed to take place on Sunday, but BamBam got evicted just after they had their Weekend party on Saturday.

She was put for eviction alongside Teddy A, Cee-C and Nina.

BamBam has now joined other housemates like Leo, Ifu Enada ,Angel, Ahneeka, Bitto, Princess, Dee-Oneand Vandora who have all been evicted from the show.
